When you first look at someone, your attention gravitates towards their eyes. It’s the eye that tells it all. Being Asian I have dark brown eyes and I always admire those with light color eyes. There are so many eye makeup looks for different types of eyes, right from a simple eye liner look to straight up Smokey eye makeup, we spend time beautifying them which in turn boosts confidence in us to carry out ourselves well.
Here are 10 flawless ways to make your eyes pop:-
- Selection Of The Right Eyeshadow Color
What look are you aiming for, is it for work or a day out with friends etc. , you need to decide and accordingly figure out the colors you want to play with. A neutral look always plays it safe if you don’t want your eye makeup to look too cool or warm. But for fair skin tones with light colored eyes using a black kohl pencil adds depth and for darker skin tones, going in with Taupe or bronze eyeshadow does the trick, even cranberry or purple tones look good on dusky skin tones works. So think of eyeshadow colors that are opposite to your eye color as you want it to stand out, your look.
When you have dark eyes and use black eye pencil to line your water line, it feels as if your eye looks dark or blended in, as if you can’t see much going on, therefore experiment with other colors to highlight your eyes.
- Eyebrows
The one thing that defines your eye look the most is your eyebrows. If you have thin eyebrows fill it in using an eyebrow powder or use a micro eyebrow pencil to shade it in or give light strokes imitating eyebrow hair. And if you have thick eyebrows do not fill in fully as it may look harsh, just fill in lightly or in places where you have some bald spots.
- Create Depth Using A Transition Shade On Your Crease
By this I mean, use darker shades as your transition on your crease like dark brown or a terra-cotta color if you are a medium to dusky skin tones. If you are fair you can use a similar color scheme but a bit lighter, this will add depth to your eye look. And keep the center of the lids light, using light colors.
If you look at the above picture you can see a dark shade has been used in the crease for creating that depth of the eye look, making the appearance look sharp and elaborate. You can do the exact look but by adding a matte light colored eyeshadow in the center, which in turn makes it appropriate for daily looks.
- The Smokey Effect
Who doesn’t love a Smokey eye makeup. But as mentioned previously when you have dark eyes and do black smokey eyes, it won’t stand out much but it would make your eye look dull. Hence use brown eyeshadow to get that Smokey eye makeup look, this will contrast your dark eyes to make it look more beautiful. For people with light colored eyes, black Smokey eye looks are better.
If you look into the above photo, black Smokey eye makeup has been used but she has dark eyes with hints of hazel in them but however the look does stand out against her fair complexion but the eyes look dull as the lens is still dark. So using brown eyeshadow does the trick for dark eyes.
- Use A White Or Light Nude Eye Pencil To Highlight
This trick is universally true, if you use a white or light nude eye pencil on your bottom inner water line, the eyes tend to look more bigger and defined, as if your awake. I always use a light nude eye pencil to make my eyes appear bigger as I have small eyes and it always does the trick. It also gives it a highlighting effect.
As seen in the above photo, the bottom water line has been highlighted or drawn using a white eye pencil giving the eye a bigger and brighter look and smudge the lower lash line with a dark eyeshadow.
- The Eyeliner Game
Another important element that changes your eye look is the use of an eyeliner. Now the way you want to draw the liner is upto you, however if you have small eyes I would refrain from lining it thick as this would make your eyes look even more smaller. So stick to either a thin line stroke or a medium stroke. The cat eyeliner look is a game changer to your eye makeup as it takes the makeup to another level and creates drama.
So think on what type of look you are going for. A simple cat eye with no eyeshadow clubbed with a red lipstick does all the scandalous talking.
- Highlighter
Highlight those inner corners of the eyes, cheek bones and underneath your eyebrow end corners as this will amplify the eyes. When you want your eyes to stand out, always think from above your nose and chin area as that covers the eye region so essentially highlighting the cheek bones and the eyebrow end corners or inner corners needs to be done.
- Curl Your Lashes
Just by adding mascara may not give the necessary dimensions to your eye look, you need to curl those lashes to give a lifted appearance and then applying the right mascara to give it length, volume and definition. One tip you can try is heat the eye lash curler with a dryer, let it cool but don’t wait for the heat to go off completely but you need the right amount and place it on your lashes to clamp it, make sure you don’t burn your eyes. Then go in with a mascara, this will give a long lasting lifted lashes.
- Mascara
The final step to your eye makeup is mascara. There are so many types of mascaras in the market that you need to find the one that suits your lash taste. If you want to add volume or length, buy the one that just gives you that. Or if you just want the lashes to look a little curled, you even have mascaras for that. So apply the mascara and complete the look. This step defines the eye makeup the most.
- Nude Lips
When you want the eyes to do the talking then keep your lips nude, this will draw the attention to your eye look. For having the eye makeup look formidable, you need to tone down the lips by applying a nude lipstick or else it will look heavy altogether. Choose the right tone of nude lipstick to match the tone of the eye makeup. If going for black Smokey eye look go for a nude pink lipstick, or if it’s just a cat eyeliner look go with nude brown or nude coral lipstick.
Hope this helps. Stay tuned for the next post and feel free to comment.
