There are so many different types of lip products available in the market these days which caters to different tastes of women. You could say most of us worship lipsticks or in other words can’t live without it. A lip color on the lips changes the whole look or game. I thought of giving out some application tips using different lip makeup products. There are certain ways in which you can wear a lip shade to give a gorgeous look.
The first and basic step is to exfoliate your lips using a lip scrub, this to remove any dry layers of skin or dead cells to ensure smooth application of the lip product, and then wipe it off with a paper towel or cloth. Make sure to go in a with lip balm or chapstick after the exfoliation, this will help the lip product to glide on smoothly.
6 Lip Makeup Application Tips:
- Lip Liner & Lipstick: To get the best flawless application out of a lipstick is to outline your lips with a lip liner. Now I never used to go in with a lip liner as a I felt it was time consuming but three years back I felt I needed one and it made a major difference. The reason of using a lip liner is because, it can change the feature or rather the size of your lips, especially women with smaller lips, using a lip liner can enhance your lip size. Another thing to consider is that, it will help the lipstick look more neat when your lips have been outlined with lip liner. Always fill in your lips with a lip liner midway and press your lips together which will impart the shade in an evenly faded way, do not just outline as it will look too obvious. You can even do an ombré where by you use the lip liner and fill in the top and bottom lips but leave the center of the lips free as that is where you can use a lighter shade of lipstick like a nude to fill in thus giving it an ombré effect.
- Lip Liner: Using a lip liner alone sometimes does the job. As it not only helps in defining your lips but you can fill it in or rather color your lips precisely with it. These days lip liners are so creamy in texture that one swipe can give you an opaque and even coverage.
- Lip Gloss: Want juicy lips? Then lip gloss is your friend. There are lip glosses ranging from clear to tinted and you have opaque lip glosses as well. Using a tinted lip gloss on your lips aid in giving a fresh natural look or if you want a more pigmented glossy look then go in with a lip lacquer as they give a good shiny color coverage to the lips.
- Lip Liner & Gloss: I prefer this method more as it not only feels right but it looks more appealing. I have seen women wear lip liner first, then go in with a lipstick and finally with a gloss on top. Let’s just say many YouTube influencers prefer this. When you are on a show or on screen this method is mostly used by influencers or actresses. But I feel it looks heavy as if a ton of lip products have been used. However it’s one’s personal preference what they would like. The combination of a lip liner and a gloss gives more of a realistic yet pretty look. Use a nude lip liner and club it with a shimmer gloss or tinted gloss and you are good to go. We Asian women have more pigmented lips so when applying just a gloss may not give the desired look we want, hence first going in with a lip liner and then the gloss on top makes the lip appeal better.
- Lipstick: A holy grail for all women and less time consuming to apply, well atleast that’s what a lipstick means for me. So many lipstick formulas are available in the market that you have many options to choose from. And if you look at your vanity or makeup pouch you will find that lipsticks conquer it all. Just applying a lipstick on its own does the job. Whether you want a matte finish, or cream, you have it all. Different bullet shapes have also been introduced in the makeup world to make the lip application more convenient and I agree with it. The most common bullet shape we all tend to buy is the tear drop types as the pointed part of it enables us to get a precise application. When applying always start from the center of your lips that is the Cupid bow and follow along the lines of your lips to fill it in. If your lipstick bleeds outside the lip lines, you can use a cotton bud to clean it out or use a concealer with a precise lip brush to clean out the excess color.
- Liquid Lipstick: Looking for an opaque coverage that can amp up your look, then liquid lipsticks are for you. Every women will have atleast one liquid lipstick with them, even if some the women are not fond of them as you require time to apply these sort of lip products. One mistake and you can spoil the whole makeup look as these lip products tend to dry out fast and so it gets difficult in removing them which in turn by accident you may end up removing a little of your foundation while taking off the liquid lipstick. You have to be patient but if you outline your lips with a lip liner and then go in with a liquid lipstick then you can fill in easily. They last a long time and you don’t have to touch up but most of the liquid lipsticks can be drying, so some may not like this. And another thing to consider is that some liquid lipsticks if you have had a meal, it may fade a little in the center so retouching may not be an option, you will have to redo the whole application on the lips again which can be a pain. None the less they are transfer proof and perfect to be worn underneath the masks during COVID 19 situation.
Lip Crayon
- : This is my most favorite lip product. Reason? It’s easy to apply and you get precise application with an opaque coverage. It’s in between a lip liner and lipstick yet the formulation is good. You get different finishes too in this range. The lip crayons that you get either are the ones you can sharpen or the twisting sorts. I like the sharpening ones as you can get it sharp to outline the lips and then color it inside. However sharpening can lead to a bit of product wastage so bear that in mind. The twisting ones are good but after a few uses it will tend to loose its shape so that is a concern to think on.
