Hello lovelies,
Today my thoughts are on the Dot & Key 5% AHA toner skin clarifying liquid exfoliant. The brand’s packaging is similar to the international brand Frudia. I like the dot and key packaging, it’s very attractive.
Price
INR 795/- for 120ml
Packaging: The product comes in a lavender bottle with a white cap on top. The packaging is very cute, even the outer box is similar to the color theme of the bottle with floral print on it.
Features
- Free from alcohol.
- Contains Grape seed extracts which helps to soothe skin and promote cell health.
- The white willow bark firms and tones complexion.
- Consists of AHA (alpha Hydroxy acid) which are naturally fruit derived skin exfoliators made from grapes, lemon, etc. Glycolic acid and lactic acid are present, both of which aims to eliminate signs of ageing, reduces pigmentation and boosts collagen.
- Borage flower ingredient is present in this toner, which is known to treat all kinds of skin inflammation including eczema, dermatitis, rosacea and psoriasis. It helps to restore moisture and smooths out dry and damaged skin.
My Experience
In terms of consistency this toner is like any other toner available in the market, whereby it is a watery consistency. According to the brand you should spray onto your clean face and neck and leave it to get absorbed by the skin, followed by your usual moisturizer. I use this toner at night after cleansing my face followed by my regular skincare routine. The nozzle sprays a fine mist, the way I use this is by spraying 2-3 pumps into my inner fingers and dab it on my face and neck. Since it is a chemical exfoliator, I wouldn’t recommend spraying it directly as it can hinder your eyebrows and eye area skin which are sensitive. Coming to the results, it’s been a month since I am using this exfoliating toner and I am not sure if I see a difference on skin texture maybe slightly as it does focus on the main ingredient of AHA but whenever I get tiny breakouts or any major ones due to my periods, this toner does reduce the dark spots and the scar left by it which is a plus. If you have hyperpigmentation this product will help reducing it. That being said if you have a lot of dark spots or pigmentation you need to seek professional advice from a dermatologist. The product doesn’t dry you out but maybe now that it is winter do follow it up with a good moisturizer. My skin type is combination with dehydrated skin. For me this product does suit and I did not get any irritation with use of this.
The toner does have a fragrance which I actually like, it smells like some fancy perfume but those who are sensitive to scents I wouldn’t recommend this product. I would recommend using chemical exfoliators at night rather than during the day, as your skin gets sensitive during the day with usage of any chemical exfoliators, and follow it up with a sunscreen. Sunscreens are necessary during the day when using chemical exfoliators whether at night or day. If you are a beginner start using the toner twice a week and then you can use it three times a week or alternative days as I wouldn’t suggest using this everyday, too much chemical exfoliation isn’t good for your skin. Do not combine this product with other retinol or vitamin C products, use this alone and your next step moisturizer.
For the price you get a good quantity and a little goes a long way, so it should last you a couple of months. You also get discounts on the product when it goes on sale on nykaa, or on their dot & key website. Overall I liked this product and as time passes by maybe my skin texture might even out eventually.
