Hello everyone,
Today I thought I will share some of the foundation shades that matches nc40 skin tone. Lately with chemical exfoliation I have gotten a bit lighter so you can say I am currently in between nc37 and nc40. When I tan I am an nc40, so thought I can be of help to those who are on the lookout for similar shade finds.
Now MAC’s shade match is somewhat universal base for finding other foundation shades. So being an nc40 has helped me find my foundation shades online too. Once I have found similar matches I would go in store to match my skin tone and accordingly would make the purchase. I use two sites to ascertain my foundation shade, they are https://findation.com/ and https://www.matchmymakeup.com/ The second website I feel gives more accurate shade match though.
The foundations I have used for nc40 are as follows:-
1.Maybelline fit me matte+poreless foundation 228(soft tan): This foundation is one of my favorite drugstore foundations, it matches me perfectly and the right shade match for nc40. If you are more peachy or warmer you can go for 310 sun beige in this range that also kind of matches nc40. For a drugstore this one gives out a luxurious feel and it just makes your skin look better. However this does oxidize on some which I have noticed depending on your skin type I feel. So I would recommend in going with one shade lighter. It is light weight and comfortable on the skin. Matte finish but not a flat matte, it does have a slight satin finish to it. Even if you are dry skin I feel this will suit. It’s one of those foundations that will suit all skin types.

The above makeup look is created using the maybelline fit me foundation 228. if interested do check it out as you might get an idea of your shade reference.
2.MAC face & body foundation C4: I am in the shade C4 in this range and suits me well. As the name suggests it is a sheer foundation but buildable upto a medium. You can layer this as many times you want and it won’t look cakey or heavy. It’s one of those cult favorite foundations by the makeup artists you can say. Even beginners in makeup would love this. It has a radiant or dewy finish. If you set it with powder it gives off a satin look. I am not sure though if oily skin people would like this as it does make you look dewy. You can browse through their website below to purchase the foundation.
Name of Mfg / Importer / Brand: Estée Lauder Compa…
3.Milani Conceal+perfect 2in1 foundation 06(sand beige): The milani foundation in the shade sand beige is apt for nc40. It has the right amount of yellow tones or golden undertones to it. It works beautifully as a concealer as well. Doesn’t oxidize. The finish is a velvet matte doesn’t pull a flat matte. Perfect for parties or functions. Gives you a proper medium finish. However in India this foundation is expensive, it ranges between Rs1400-1600.

In the above reel I have applied the milani foundation, if interested feel free to check out.
4.Smashbox Studio Skin 24 hour wear hydra foundation 2.4: The shade 2.4 matches nc40, if you are on the lookout for this particular one. Unfortunately I don’t like this foundation as it doesn’t suit my skin type. It just cakes up and grabs on to my dry patches and enhances my texture. I tried making it work with a beauty blender, mixed in with a facial oil, I even tried applying with my fingers yet nothing worked. I have seen influencers rave about this foundation as their holy grail however this did not work for my skin type.
It’s a medium to buildable coverage. Oil free and lasts you a long time. Holds up well in humid climate places.
5.L’Oréal infallible 24 hour fresh wear foundation 260(golden sun): This foundation has got nice golden undertones to it. Leaves a matte finish and lasts you a long time. It’s runny consistency. Although I did feel this one makes your skin look matte especially when you set it with a loose powder. It does slightly emphasize texture as it is a matte foundation. So I normally mix in a drop of facial oil to make it look a little radiant but when I do so the lasting power reduces and it does transfer to the mask. But overall it’s a nice foundation. Also it does have a slight white cast which does go once the foundation settles on your skin.
In the above idea pin I have used this foundation as my makeup base, kindly check it out for skin tone reference of how it looks on my NC40.

I have created a makeup look using the Loreal infallible fresh wear foundation in the above reel too.
Other foundations that I have used and disposed of are Dior backstage face & body and MAC studio waterweight foundations.
Dior backstage face & body foundation 3wo: The shade 3wo works well for nc40. It is more warm olive, if you are warmer you can go for 3W. This is an ok foundation I am not much of a fan of this. It’s light weight and has a soft matte finish. Provides sheer to buildable coverage, however whenever I applied this it felt as if I am wearing a foundation as my nose area emphasized a slight texture with this on. It does hold up well. I thought this will be like the MAC face & body however the MAC one is more dewy and feels more natural on the skin.
MAC Studio waterweight foundation NC40: this particular foundation in this range was actually light and looked more light peachy. And there is no nc41 in this range, the next shade available is nc42, so I had gone in to buy nc40 itself. Would make it work by bronzer somehow. But I have to say that this foundation is so beautiful on the skin. Has a satin finish, very light weight and it gives a sheer finish. Holds up really well in humid climates. However if you have dry patches this will grab onto to them. It is more like an advanced version of the MAC face & body foundation. None the less it is a good one but the shade range lacks.
Hope you guys found this post helpful. Do comment below if you are nc40 and have used these shades or recommend more foundation matches.
