Have you ever thought to your self after watching YouTube tutorials regarding to applying makeup in a simple way yet you still don’t understand what goes first or seem to be confused in doing so. Don’t worry I have been there and I know how it feels. Being a makeup artist I had to try out different techniques to achieve a simple yet beautiful look. However makeup can be done according to your personal preference depending on your skin type to whatever suits you. Here’s a makeup guide for beginners that you might find it simple to grasp.
- Moisturize & Prime: The first and basic step before starting to apply any sort of makeup is to moisturize the face and neck as it will enable a smooth application or layering what is to come next which is a primer. Now there are different kinds of primers in the market so the right one needs to be picked out for your skin type. A primer’ s purpose would be to lay down a base where your foundation can be applied smoothly. The various kinds of primers available in the market these days cater to different skin types, for example there is one for filling out pores if you want your skin to look airbrushed or if you have dry skin you might want to buy or get a primer that focuses on hydrating the skin etc. Hence pick a primer according to your skin need.
- Foundation & concealer: A foundation helps to even out your skin tone and leads to a smooth complexion. Depending on what you require whether it’s light coverage just for a natural layer or for the purpose of covering any acne marks as such then you should go for medium to full coverage. A concealer is designed to brighten the under eye area and conceal the dark circles as well as any blemishes or marks. The finishes of concealers pertain to matte, dewy or radiant finish and the product appears in medium to full coverage.
- Setting powder: Once you are done with concealing the under eye area the next step would be to dust some loose powder or pressed powder there as this is to insure that the makeup is sealed in there. This step varies and is a personal preference as some follow this process after blush, contour and bronzing. So to make it simple why I suggest to powder after concealing is because your under eye area would crease if you don’t seal it with a powder, however not to complicate things if you are using cream products such as cream blush or contour then I would suggest you to powder after this.
- Eyeshadow Primer/base: Many people skip this step and get on with doing the eyeshadow however I must stress the use of an eyeshadow primer or any eye base as whenever you use the eyeshadow there has to be base that holds the eye look intact and for even application. If you don’t consider this step the eyeshadow won’t last and it will crease leaving you with half lid eye look and that is not pleasant to look at. Many women out there use concealers as their eye base which is fine but for oily eye lids the best option is to go for a waterproof or water resistant eye primers.
- Eyeshadow Application: After sealing your eye base, the next step would be to design or define your eyes with an eyeshadow of your color preference. If not going in with an eyeshadow then you can skip step four and just apply a simple eyeliner or use any eye pencil just to outline those pretty eyes.
- Mascara: Make sure to define those eyelashes with a mascara whether you want more volume or just lengthening, there are different mascaras to cater those lash needs.
- Filling in eyebrows: Defining your eyebrows is a very necessary step as this is the feature of your face that stands out and hence an important step. Whether you have less volume eyebrows or more on the heavy side volume filling those brows are necessary. Just a light dust of eye brow powder or using an eye brow pencil to fill in those gaps are enough to attain a simple or sophisticated look.
- Contour: A contour’s purpose is to chisel and sculpt your features on the face. You can start with powder formula as it’s more easier to use and then probably move onto cream or liquid formulas. You can layer them as well, start with the cream contour and then seal it with a powder finished formula. Contours tend to be cool toned and consists of a greyish brown undertone that gives out an illusion of shadow.
- Bronze: A bronzer aids in giving warmth to your outer perimeters of your face and hence a sun kissed glow look. Do not get confused with contour and bronzing as both are different. If you are wanting those chiseled cheekbones making the face look more defined or lean then contour is suggested as this more advanced step but when you are starting out the bronzing step is enough as it helps to achieve a natural look.
- Blush: Ever wanted a doll like face with rosy cheeks? Then this is the step to follow. Now there are liquid to cream formulated blushes and powder ones. To simply put it and to not put in more time to your makeup routine a powder blush is recommended however I feel the cream blushes last longer and give a color from within. So depending on your preference choose whichever you desire.
- Highlighter: Are you a person who wants to glow like the stars from above or prefer a natural within candlelight glow? If so honey this step is essential. Highlighters too come in cream or powder formulas so depending on the finish choose one that you wish.
- Lipstick: Filling in or coloring those lips is what makes the whole look come together, so choose a color that you want to rock in, be it a liquid lipstick, lip gloss or a bullet lipstick try the one you desire. There are so many shades to choose from depending on the outfit you wear just try to match the whole look with it. Liquid lipsticks come in a liquid consistent formula so hence the opaque coverage but if you are on the lookout for just a tint of color then even a lip gloss would do. This product fairly comes in matte, satin, cream etc finishes.
- Setting Spray: After all the above steps this is the final one. Setting your makeup look or sealing in with a setting spray makes your makeup last longer.
